Why Create A Graded Quiz for Your Online Course in WordPress?

Online quizzes are such a great way to challenge students of your online courses to really master the course material. Graded quizzes, in particular, are also an accurate way to determine if your course is effective or not.

But it's not just a statistical tool. You can also set up a quiz so that the student must receive a passing grade before they can access the next lesson or course module.

What You'll Need to Create A Graded Quiz for Your Online Course in WordPress

The tool list you need is pretty short:

  • A WordPress website
  • The AccessAlly Pro membership site plugin
  • A tag-based CRM (see current list of integrations here)

How Do Graded Quizzes Work?

As the user completes a graded quiz, the correct and incorrect answers are all added together, and the percentage of correct answers is determined.

If the user receives a “passing” percentage, you can then apply a tag inside your CRM system that will tell the membership site to release the next lesson. (Or just add the access tag for the next lesson inside the

If the user does not receive a “passing” percentage, you can either add a tag and release supplemental training material to them, or request that they re-take the quiz.

In either case, the pace at which any of your students progress through the course will depend on how well they understand and grasp the material.

In this example, I'll show you how to use AccessAlly to create a graded quiz for your online course in WordPress.

Step 1: Install the AccessAlly plugin on your WordPress Site & Set Up Integrations

AccessAlly can be installed on your WordPress site like any other plugin. Then, integrate it with your tag-based CRM of choice.

Step 2: Create Your “Quiz Page” and Enable Quiz Settings

AccessAlly quizzes can be added to any post or page inside WordPress. Simple create your page, then scroll down to the settings to enable a quiz.

Step 3: Select the “Graded Quiz” Option

Next, select the “Graded Quiz” option from the dropdown.

Step 4: Determine your thresholds

Now, you can determine what a “passing” grade is, by clicking on the “score range” tab, and clicking the button to indicate which percentage you want to use as the pass/fail threshold.

By default, AccessAlly has two outcomes (0-50% and 50-100%), however you can create additional groupings if you'd like by clicking on the yellow “Add outcome” button.

Step 5: Determine which CRM tags should be applied when a user passes (or fails) a quiz

In this area, you can simply select (or start typing the name of) a tag that already exists inside your CRM. If a user meets the pass/fail criteria, they will be automatically tagged by AccessAlly.

Step 6: Set up your quiz questions

Now, it's time to create your questions!

Step 7: Add the quiz to your page

When you've finished creating your questions, you can add the quiz to the WordPress page, using the Shortcode Adder in the toolbar.

After hitting “Publish”, your graded quiz is all set and ready to go!
