Kajabi vs. ClickFunnels: a comparison
The marketplace can be overwhelming when it comes to choosing the right software or platform to support your online courses, programs, and membership site.
There are many aspects to consider, and how they’ll support your business now and in the future.
Who Are We to Be Reviewing These Tools?
As the creators of AccessAlly, a WordPress LMS Plugin, we’ve tested many course building platforms and software available so that we can share what we’ve learned with you.
We want you to find the best solution for your business, even if it’s not AccessAlly.
Kajabi and ClickFunnels are two possible solutions for you. In this article, we’ll share what we know about their philosophies, features, pricing, and more.
By the end of the article, you’ll have a clear idea of how both Kajabi and ClickFunnels can support your business and which may be right for you.
How do Kajabi and ClickFunnels Differ?
Kajabi and ClickFunnels are both called all-in-one platforms and have some overlap in features, but they serve very different purposes.
Kajabi was created to support your online business from website building, accepting payments, and hosting your online courses and content.
ClickFunnels was created with a focus on sales funnels, and they also offer a protected content feature to host your membership site material.
So, how do they differ?
ClickFunnels has a singular objective: to increase your sales through funnels, no matter what kind of business you operate.
Kajabi, on the other hand, is for online course and content creators. Again, they aim to support every aspect of your business, including online courses and sales funnels.
All-in-one vs. Dedicated course builder
Right off the bat, if you have a robust membership site, online content library, or courses, Kajabi is a better fit. Although ClickFunnels offers functionality to support protected content, they lack important features to create a true membership site experience.
Here are a few features that overlap between Kajabi vs. ClickFunnels: website builders, pre-built sales funnels, CRM capabilities, and limited email marketing automation tools. On a basic level, they both have the ability to protect content, but that looks different on each platform.
ClickFunnels offers a basic membership funnel where you can set up a sales funnel to sell a membership.
The content is then protected through your ClickFunnels dashboard. It can work for one simple offering. If you have multiple offerings or want to offer anything other than the most basic protected content, you’ll quickly outgrow ClickFunnels or be forced to create separate funnels for each course or membership you create.
There’s no way to have all courses or memberships accessible from one dashboard.
In fact, we’ve researched quite a few different platforms and software, and ClickFunnels is one of the most basic, bare-bones platforms when it comes to membership sites that we’ve found.
ClickFunnels’ primary focus is on sales funnels, not membership sites.
Kajabi, on the other hand, was created for course creators and educators.
Their all-in-one platform will work for you if you have multiple offerings, for example, products, online courses, digital downloads, and memberships.
Kajabi has an entire content management system, so you can sell and deliver your online courses and programs from their all-in-one platform.
So, while most of our comparisons are apples to apples, for example, Kajabi Vs. Podia, this comparison between Kajabi Vs. ClickFunnels is more apples to oranges because they were created for different purposes.
Pricing limits on members, courses, and products
Let’s get a full picture of the pricing structure for both Kajabi and ClickFunnels. They both come with a 14-day trial, and neither offers a free plan.
Clickfunnels starts at $97 per month. They offer a middle-tier Platinum plan for $297 per month. They also offer the highest tier, called the Two Comma Club at $2,497 per month.
On their lowest level tier at $97 per month, you’ll have limitations on pages, funnels, sub-users, payment gateways, and domains. The biggest drawback of this lowest level tier is that you won’t have access to follow-up emails. Arguably, that’s one of ClickFunnels primary features that you’ll be missing out on.
On the Premium plan with ClickFunnels, you’ll have access to follow up emails, and you won’t have limits on your funnels or pages. You’ll also get access to priority support, and the option to join a weekly session called Hackathons. On these calls, you can get your funnels peer-reviewed and invite feedback.
All in all, if you’re going to choose ClickFunnels, you’ll likely need the middle-tier Platinum plan at $297 per month, mainly due to that follow-up email feature restriction.
Kajabi starts at $149 per month with their Basic plan. They have a middle-tier Growth plan at $199 per month. And their highest-tier, Pro at $399 per month.
On the basic plan, you’ll have limits on your products, pipelines, contacts, active members, websites, and admin users. These limits are all reasonable for most businesses. The biggest limitation here is a 3 pipeline limit. Pipelines are what they call their marketing automation feature, so be aware of that limitation.
On their middle-tier Growth plan, the limits jump up significantly higher. You’re looking at a limitation of 15 products and pipelines, which will work for most businesses.
If you choose Kajabi, you may be able to start out on the Basic plan at $149 per month, but you’ll likely outgrow the 3 pipeline limitation relatively quickly and need to upgrade to the middle-tier Growth plan at $199 per month.
Even though Kajabi limits some of its features like how many products, pipelines, and contacts you can have, they don’t restrict access to features like ClickFunnels does.
If you want to upgrade on Kajabi, it’s likely because your business is growing and you’re reaching those limitations.
With ClickFunnels, you may be forced to upgrade just because you want access to all the features they offer.
Looking for a Alternative With Fewer Restrictions?
You want full control of your content, members, and their experience on your site.
So you can spend your time doing what you do best, not struggling with frustrating platform restrictions.
With AccessAlly, you’ve got all of the power and flexibility of WordPress, without any limits on your business’ growth potential either.
Extensibility and Ownership
Both Kajabi and ClickFunnels are platforms. When we talk about platforms vs. software for our LMS comparisons, we akin them to owning vs. renting a home.
A platform is more like renting a home because the infrastructure is already setup. You’re coming in to decorate and make it your own to an extent.
Software is more like owning a home. You’ll have more flexibility to completely customize your membership site. You own where your membership site is set up. You can more easily export and migrate if you decide to make a change.
Although this may seem like a small difference explained here, this is a big long-term decision. If Kajabi or ClickFunnels will work for now, but you imagine moving anytime in the near future, it probably doesn’t make sense to start here.
Instead, start with what will support your business now, and in the future.
What AccessAlly Customers Are Saying...
"We moved them over from Kajabi to Access Ally and every single member loves the new site!
Access Ally is SO easy to use and integrates perfectly with Ontraport. We’ve had ZERO issues with it, which I don’t think I can say about any other software or tool or plugin we use. Plus the interface is beautiful.
We moved them over from Kajabi to Access Ally and every single member loves the new site. It’s extremely user friendly for our clients, and for us. AccessAlly is a brilliant, beautiful, user friendly platform that has had a direct positive impact on our bottom line.” – Heidi DeCoux, HeidiDeCoux.com
"AccessAlly is the better option, hands down
“Honestly, Teachable, Thinkific, or Kajabi would have been the *easier* option, but AccessAlly with my WordPress theme is hands down the *better* option. It’s going to grow and scale with me over time, and that’s unbeatable.
AccessAlly allows me to provide a dashboard for all members, and it also allows me to create a member-directory (great for forming that community), an editable profile, plus lots of gamification features that can help members track their progress and reward them for their achievements.
AccessAlly integrates directly with my ESP, which gives me the functionality to track progress, send reminder emails. That’s priceless.” -Eden Fried, EdenFried.com
Onboarding and Customer Support
Access to customer support and knowledge base articles can be extremely helpful in your setup. There are no major differences between Kajabi and ClickFunnels customer support, but we will detail what to expect from each of them here.
With ClickFunnels, be sure and check your tier limitations. On the lowest tier, you don’t have access to priority or phone support. Chat support is available on all plans and priority support is available on the middle tier, and phone support on the upper tier.
It’s important to note that although chat support can sound really appealing, sometimes a chat environment is not great for troubleshooting technical issues. Details can get lost in the back and forth, and your chat representative may not have enough time to really understand your issue with the quick nature of chats.
Kajabi offers chat, email, and ticket support, as well as phone support. They offer 24/7 chat support on their middle and upper tiers.
With either platform, you can expect responsive and easy to access support options.
Integration with your Email marketing automation platform
Although both these platforms offer integrations, you’ll want to consider what your overall setup will look like once you’ve connected your systems.
You certainly don’t want a duct-taped members area that leaves your users feeling confused and uninterested.
Both Kajabi and ClickFunnels offer payment integrations, which we’ll talk more about in the E-commerce section of this comparison.
ClickFunnels integrates with several systems to complete your setup. In fact, some people even integrate Kajabi and ClickFunnels. They use ClickFunnels to capture leads and introduce an offer. The contact information collected via ClickFunnels is sent to Kajabi which manages all their content and user experience.
ClickFunnels offers integrations for webinars, SMS messages, calculating shipping costs, and a plugin to add ClickFunnels to your WordPress website.
Although they do offer these kinds of integrations, it’s important to explore what that flow will look like for your users. They may have to log in to multiple systems, or otherwise see the duct-taped process you’ve set up.
You can also use Zapier to connect ClickFunnels to another system. It’s not uncommon for businesses to use ClickFunnels, then trigger a membership site registration on another platform entirely.
Kajabi integrates with other systems as well, but it’s important to remember that Kajabi is an all-in-one platform. If you find yourself needing integration after integration, then Kajabi may not be the best fit for you after all.
You’ll want to rely on Kajabi’s native features as much as possible in order to get the most out of your money and create a seamless experience for your users.
That being said, Kajabi offers integrations with Zapier. They have email integrations with AWeber, MailChimp, Drip, ConvertKit, and ActiveCampaign. They also offer integrations with analytics like Segment, Google Analytics, and Facebook Pixel.
One benefit of Kajabi is that you most likely won’t need integrations. You can set up everything you need on Kajabi’s platform and literally keep it all under one roof. If you choose this route, you’ll keep your setup simple. You may run into limitations, but the benefit of having everything in one place might outweigh those limitations.
Looking for something that integrates both ways?
Marketing automation tools are here to stay.
Use your marketing automation tool to power your course and membership program by taking advantage of AccessAlly’s deep 2-way street integration.
It’s built to help you sell more, teach better, and engage with your students longer.
Learning reinforcements: quizzes, progress tracking, homework, and certificates
ClickFunnels doesn’t have much to offer here. Natively, you cannot create quizzes, tests, assignments, or course completion certificates, which can be a deal-breaker for many businesses. Some platforms allow for third-party integrations that can support features like this, but that’s not the case on ClickFunnels.
If you want to use ClickFunnels for your sales funnels, and offer learning reinforcements, you’d have to use another software or platform entirely, as we discussed in the integrations section of this comparison.
The membership features they offer are bare-minimum and really won’t work for you if you’re trying to run a robust membership site with multiple offerings.
Kajabi does have learning reinforcements available: assessments, quizzes, surveys, and assignments.
Kajabi does offer features to create more of a learning experience for your users. For example, they have unlimited Wista access for video hosting. You can also create a community, and allow comments under your lectures to create further engagement.
If learning reinforcements are important to you, then Kajabi is hands-down the better choice here.
Membership site and course design flexibility
There are three areas to discuss with design flexibility for both Kajabi and ClickFunnels: website and funnel design, membership area design, and mobile-friendliness.
ClickFunnels allows you to input content into their pre-built design. There’s little customization available. ClickFunnels offers a lot of templates to choose from for your funnels and website pages. They offer similar templates for the membership area.
Overall, its templates are nice. There is a lot to choose from, so allow enough time to sift through them to find what you’re looking for. Their templates are very plug-and-play. So while you may have some flexibility to change fonts, move blocks in the layouts, and add images, you won’t be able to fully customize the look and feel of your website, funnels, or membership area.
It’s also important to talk about a mobile experience for your users. With so many learners on their phones, they need an easy way to log in and easily access their content on a beautifully designed dashboard. That may very well be a deal-breaker for many businesses. That’s not possible with ClickFunnels. Kajabi, however, does offer a mobile-friendly experience for your users.
Kajabi does offer templates and design flexibility. They have a variety of templates to choose from. While you certainly can customize your design, you can even hire a designer and developer to fully customize the look and feel, you don’t have to.
Kajabi provides everything you need to get your site up and running with a designer, developer, or custom code. This is the case for your website pages, funnels, and membership site area.
If you want full design flexibility, AccessAlly is for you
Because AccessAlly is a WordPress plugin, you can use any WordPress theme or builder you like.
Or start with AccessAlly’s theme, which comes with all of the progress tracking and navigation menus integrated out of the box.
Power, flexibility, and beauty all in one course platform.
bulk course enrollment and umbrella accounts
Bulk course enrollment, also known as team accounts, umbrella accounts, and while label courses are continuing to grow in popularity.
This feature makes it possible to sell a bulk package of licenses to a team leader. Then, the team leader has the power to assign those licenses to team members.
A robust feature would also come with valuable interactions between team leaders and their team members. They can purchase additional licenses, see their team member’s progress, and communicate with their team, all from an easy to use dashboard.
Neither Kajabi nor ClickFunnels offers a bulk course enrollment feature.
If this is part of your business plan now, or might be in the future, neither of these platform options will work for you.
E-commerce and affiliate functionality
With Kajabi, you can integrate with Stripe and PayPal to accept payments. You can easily accept recurring subscriptions with the flexibility to charge weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually.
Kajabi also offers features to run free trials or paid trials. You can charge an initial setup fee, run upsells, and order bumps.
ClickFunnels has a number of supported APIs for payment gateways including ApplePay, Android Pay, Authorize.net, Paypal, and Stripe among others.
ClickFunnels does support one-time payments and subscriptions. All those order details must be set up within your payment gateway directly, then you create and connect your product from ClickFunnels.
ClickFunnels doesn’t support coupon codes natively. You can run trial periods as long as you set those up within your payment gateway.
With ClickFunnels, you’ll have more payment gateway options, but Kajabi gives you more order forms features like coupons and more complex pricing structures.
Running an affiliate program for your products, courses, or memberships is a great way to expand your market and increase sales.
Choosing a platform or software that can support a robust, professional affiliate environment can be really helpful to your overall affiliate program success.
The last thing you want is a duct-taped solution that makes it hard for affiliates to sell your content, find valuable marketing assets, and learn more about how they can make money themselves and share your work with the world.
With Kajabi, you can run an affiliate program. Their features support the ability for an affiliate to sign up, see their commissions, find unique links, see their click tracking, and share announcements with them.
Where it’s lacking is in the ability to easily share marketing materials, like swipe copy and images that make it easy for your affiliates to promote.
With AccessAlly, for example, you can design a beautiful dashboard that not only shares all these same stats and details with your affiliates but houses valuable copy, social media posts, images, and any other content you want available to your affiliates.
ClickFunnels does offer an affiliate system called Backpack. With it, you can easily add an affiliate program to any of your funnels.
They have a feature called “sticky cookies” that will continue to give your affiliates commissions on future sales. For some business models, the sticky cookies method is great, but it’s important to note that not all businesses want to give commissions on future sales.
ClickFunnels offer functionality to build a nice affiliate dashboard where your affiliates can see their stats and also find marketing material they need to promote your offerings.
All in all, ClickFunnels affiliate features outweigh what you’ll find on Kajabi.

The true cost of Kajabi vs ClickFunnels
The true cost of ClickFunnels is that you cannot offer a robust membership site experience. If you envision multiple products, memberships, and courses, then ClickFunnels will cap your growth and you’ll have to migrate to another system.
The true cost of Kajabi is when you try to keep everything under one roof and end up having to compromise your vision based on the platform limitations. They may come in features, design, or overall user experience where you have to give up something you want because of the platform limitations.
In Summary
Kajabi might be right for you if...
- You need a bare-bones course website, with no plans for added functionality down the line
- You want to have your site up and running quickly, so you can test your ideas without worrying about design
- You don’t use a CRM like Infusionsoft, Ontraport, ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, or Drip to do your email marketing automation

ClickFunnels might be right for you if...
- You only need a simple content delivery system to make your content available to your customers.
- You’re not picky about the look-and-feel of your course
- You’re already using ClickFunnels as your funnel builder and don’t need any learning management system features such as progress tracking, quizzes, gamification, or member directories.
